Comparison: Realme X Vs Realme 5 Pro

Chinese smartphone brand Realme launched two new smartphones in India today—Realme 5 and Realme 5 Pro. While the former is aimed at budget-conscious buyers going for smartphones under ₹10,000, the latter is a more premium offering with one of Qualcomm's best chipsets of the current generation—Snapdragon 712.

The Realme 5 Pro starts at ₹13,999 and goes all the way up to ₹16,999. Its top-specced variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage, along with that 48MP quad-camera setup is in the same league as the Realme X—a full-display smartphone with similar specifications, but with a few crucial distinctions that might confuse buyers to pick between the two. We clear the confusion for you by comparing these two smartphones.

Display:

The Realme 5 Pro comes with a 6.3-inch LCD display with a resolution of 2340x1080. The display has a dew-drop notch that accommodates the front-facing 16MP selfie camera. The display is sufficiently bright but lacks the oomph of an AMOLED display.
The Realme X comes with a 6.53-inch AMOLED display with the same resolution as the Realme 5 Pro. However, it lacks a notch. Instead, it opts a motorized mechanism to house its 16MP front-facing sensor. It gets all the advantages of being an AMOLED screen—pitch blacks, saturated and vibrant colors.
If you are a person who'd be consuming a lot of media content, you should opt the Realme X.

Hardware:

The Realme 5 Pro is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 chipset paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The SoC is coupled with an Adreno 616 GPU that promises to offer near flagship-level performance—be it gaming or just resource-hungry tasks.
The Realme X rocks last year's Snapdragon 710 SoC and in its base configuration, it is paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The variant in a higher memory configuration of 8GB RAM is available at ₹19,999.
When compared with the similarly priced variants, the Realme 5 Pro slightly outperforms the Realme X as its chipset claims to offer 10% better gaming performance and also because it has a higher RAM capacity. If you're going for sheer gaming performance and multi-tasking capabilities, the Realme 5 Pro should be your choice.

Software:

Both smartphones run the same version of Android Pie and the same ColorOS 6 UI. Oppo has made some significant improvements in its UI, but some issues like bloatware and a dated-looking translucent notification panel might be turn-offs for many. Realme is known for rolling out timely security and firmware upgrades, however, so you'd be sorted that way.

Camera:

The Realme 5 Pro comes with a category-leading quad-camera setup at the back in a 48MP+8MP+2MP+2MP configuration. The 48MP sensor is fitted with a wide-angle lens, while the 8MP sensor comes with an ultra-wide lens. One of the 2MP sensors captures depth information while the other is a dedicated macro sensor that allows you to capture photos of close-up objects much better.
The Realme X comes with a rather conservative 48MP+5MP dual rear camera setup. The primary sensor is fitted with a 26mm wide-angle lens while the 5MP sensor is for depth sensing purposes.
If you're a photography buff, you'd have a wider selection of camera choices if you opt for the Realme 5 Pro. We can't guarantee the performance of the 8MP wide-angle sensor, however.

Battery:

The Realme 5 Pro comes with a 4,035mAh battery while the Realme X comes with a marginally smaller 3,765mAh battery. Both smartphones ship with VOOC 3.0 Flash Charger rated at 20W. We expect the Realme 5 Pro to give better battery performance because of the higher battery capacity and more efficient processor.

Conclusion:

The Realme 5 Pro beats the Realme X in almost every aspect except display and overall looks (the Realme X is made out of glass and metal while the Realme 5 Pro has a polycarbonate back).
The Realme 5 Pro is a much better deal than the Realme X if you don't care much about display quality. The Realme X is for the content consumers, however, you'd be able to make the best out of it if you go for the 8GB variant.
